Before cleaning the sink, you should first know the material of your sink, whether it is stainless steel, ceramic or porcelain. Ceramic or porcelain sinks are more easily get stained. Stainless steel ones are more easily getting scratch. Though you may not see many stain on your stainless steel kitchen sink, there are many germs and bacteria.

General guideline

First, for all kind of sink get yourself prepared with liquid soap, sponge or cleaning rug. Turn on the tap and let the water flush away the food residues. Then use the liquid soap to wipe clean the sink. Let water rinse the sink again and wipe clean.

For better cleaning, you can sprinkle some baking soda to the sink area and pour onto the sink some vinegar, then scrub. Or, you may use vinegar along to scrub the sink for removal of grease and germs. The slight acidic power of vinegar can help remove stain.

Stainless steel kitchen sinks

As stainless steel can be damaged by acidic cleaners, choose some mild one is always better. To make stainless steel sinks shinier, you may use toothpaste and soft bristle toothbrush to brush the sink.

Ceramic kitchen sink

For harder stain, you may need to use oxygen bleach. Mix the oxygen bleach with water according to the directions on the package of the oxygen bleach. Then soak a cloth into the mixture. Put the soaked cloth on to the stained area of the sink. Wait for 15 minutes. Remove the cloth and slightly scrub. You can discover the stains disappear. Finally, rinse the sink with water and wipe clean.

Keep away smell from drain

To keep away the smell from drain, you can squeeze some lemon juice into the drain. Wait for 5-10 minutes, and then flush with water.

Sanitization

Regular sanitization is required for sink as it is the place that you wash your vegetables and dishes. To do that, you can simply buy a commercial disinfectant. Or, you can use the vinegar as your disinfectant to clean your entire sink. Remember to clean and wipe the handles also.
